Cape Town is abuzz as Design Indaba prepares to take the city - and the rest of the world - to the next level of its creative legacy. As the only event of its kind in South Africa, this 100% South African celebration of every kind of design is hitting the Cape Town International Convention Centre this week. And it's is going to be the biggest yet.
The Design Indaba Conference kicks off this week Wednesday 24 February with an astounding cast of local and international speakers. From CEO's and street artists to bloggers and performers. Each speaker has been hand-picked because they have something to offer to the world of design and the many that are coming to hear them speak. If you weren't lucky enough to get a ticket in time don't despair. I will be blogging each conference live so you will be able to keep up to date on what is happening, who is saying what and what is taking place in the creative industry throughout the world.
But it doesn't just end there. After three days of intense talks, debates and idea sharing, the Design Indaba Expo opens its doors to the public. Friday 26 February will see the start of the biggest design expo in South Africa and it's best you're there. To try even going through what you will see would take me a good couple of hours that I don't have. But if there is something that interests you, then you will find it here. I stake my life on it. The eclectic mix of exhibitors will keep you busy for hours: graphic design, architecture, fashion, advertising, craft, film, decor, jewellery and everything in between.
Tickets to the expo are reasonably priced with even a discount for students because Design Indaba understands the need for the future of the country to benefit from what the world has to offer and what they have to offer to the world. There is simply nothing stopping you from making a turn a Design Indaba 2010 and taking in the cream of the crop while having a chance to interact with them, learn how they got where they are and then admire, once again, the incredible work coming out of South Africa designers.
Do you really want to look back at this and regret not going?
So drop in.
Come on... you know you want to.
