Founded in 2008 by Trevyn and Julian McGowan, Southern Guild is devoted to encouraging South African designers and artists to explore and produce more challenging work to showcase on an international stage.
The platform has been internationally recognised as representing the best of South African design excellence and authenticity, blurring the boundaries between art and design.
In 2011 Southern Guild became the first African gallery to present at Design Miami and has since shown at Design Days Dubai and the inaugural Collective Design Fair in New York.
The platform has now found a permanent home in Cape Town with the opening of the Southern Guild gallery where the collectible, limited-edition designs are exhibited and sold.
Homecoming, the inaugural exhibition, will run until 10 February 2015 and showcases work from among others Gregor Jenkin, Porky Hefer, Bronze Age, Dokter & Misses, Conrad Hicks, Guy Du Toit, Laurie Widd van Heerden, Imiso and many more.
