See the latest on the catwalks in all-day fashion shows; attend short films, talks and product launches; be enticed to buy from more than 260 exhibitors and hobnob with the designers in person. Above all, be awed by the creative spirit of innovative South Africans.

A multi-sectoral celebration of diversity, the Design Indaba Expo includes advertising, architecture, craft, décor, film, fashion, graphic design, interior design, jewellery, new media, publishing, product design and visual media – all under the same roof. Every one of the more than 260 exhibitors is vetted and approved by an advisory panel of top South African designers, stylists, critics and industry experts to ensure that only original, contemporary and innovative products are showcased.

The credibility of this approach to quality control is confirmed by the annual presence of over 200 prominent international buyers and influential journalists at the event.

Design Indaba is committed to the vision that a better future can be designed, and firmly believes that creativity can expand South Africa’s economy. Since its inception, the Design Indaba Expo has established itself as the premier platform for South African designers to showcase creative goods and services to the global market, wowing local consumers as well as stimulating export further afield.

Programming Machines and Robots Workshop, presented by Rossum

Many designs and inventions require a computer brain to make them work. This is a workshop for young designers interested in how to write programs that control inventions or robots from a computer. We will use a simple visual language called Robo Pro and a programming language called Python to write programs that control motors, lights and other gadgets connected to the computer.

Robotics Hackerspace Workshop by Rossum

Young designers and inventors often enjoy taking things apart for spare parts, to improve it or just to understand how it works. We will be hacking machines and electronic devices for parts we can use to build the machines and robots we are thinking of. This is the place to come and learn more about the art of hacking, automation and electronics.

Artjamming will also be at the Design Indaba Expo this year! You simply walk in and let your imagination take hold of the paint brushes (no bookings necessary). Whether it’s playing, painting, sponging or spraying, it’s about putting on an apron to face a blank canvas and unleashing your own individual creativity that makes Artjamming™ the most fun you can have with a paintbrush.

Artjamming artists will be assisting young and old to make the most of their visit and you can also purchase a variety of art supplies to continue your creativity at home!
