Zimele is a non-profit organisation based in Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Zimele was founded in 2007 with a vision to confront the root causes of poverty and remove barriers to self-sufficiency for women in KwaZulu-Natal’s rural communities. The organisation's philosophy is rooted in the Zulu word, 'Zimele', which means, 'to stand on one’s own two feet.' Thus their programme model ensures that the women they serve receive the highest quality training and mentor support to start savings and loans groups and invest in starting their own micro-businesses and social service projects.
