The vision of the South African Post Office is to be recognised among the leading providers of postal and related services in the world. Our mission is to enable the nation to efficiently connect with the world by distributing information, goods, financial and government services; leveraging our broad reach and embracing change, technology and innovation. Each South African citizen is able to connect to friends locally and all over the world by writing a letter and using a beautiful postage stamp on the envelope. Postage stamps are regarded as the country’s smallest ambassadors as they mirror the unique and varied nature of South African society. All aspects of the product, e.g. concept, design (the artist must be able to convey a particular message through com-position, colour, line, texture and content), paper, printing, glue, etc must be of such a quality that it promotes the country both nationally and internationally. As miniature masterpieces of art, stamps are exhibited on their humble ‘art gallery’ of an envelope, and are therefore much more than prepayment for postage.
