Born in 1947, Erik Spiekermann studied history of art and English in Berlin.

Lucille Tenazas is the founder and principal of Tenazas Design, a multidisciplinary communications design firm based in San Francisco. Her design reflects an interest in the complexity of language and the overlapping relationship of meaning, form and content.

Amy Franceschini was born to a farming family and grew up in California’s San Joaquin Valley. She graduated with a BFA in photography in 1992, and went on to further her studies in design.

Yves Béhar is the founder of fuseproject, an integrated design firm dedicated to the development of the emotional experience of brands through story-telling. The diverse experience and mediums practiced by the fuseproject design teams span products, environments, graphics, packaging, apparel and strategy.

Josh On hails from New Zealand where he completed his BA in sociology. He spent six years in London working on various design jobs in television, computer gaming and Internet companies, before completing an MA in Computer Related Design at the Royal College of Art in London.

Patrick Coyne, editor of the influential graphic arts magazine Communication Arts, co-hosted the first Design Indaba in 1995, chairing panel discussions and presenting sessions. Coyne has attended and participated in many of the world’s premier design and graphic arts conferences and reported on them in his magazine.
