Born in 1947, Erik Spiekermann studied history of art and English in Berlin.

Michael Mack was born in Zimbabwe and moved to England in 1980 where he trained and worked as a lawyer. In 1989 he moved to Paris and then left law to study an arts MA. Now based in London, he is a freelance art director, editor, curator and writer.

Born in 1968 in Pretoria, Sean O’Toole is a Cape Town-based journalist and writer. Currently editor of Art South Africa, a quarterly print magazine focusing on contemporary South African and African art, he also writes a weekly column on photography for the Sunday Times and a biweekly art column for the Financial Mail.

Graphic designer, illustrator, educator, author and editor, Paul Sahre established his own design company in New York in 1997. Consciously maintaining a small office, he has nevertheless established a large presence in American graphic design.
