Design Academy Eindhoven graduate Sonja Bäumel is based between Amsterdam, Brussels and Vienna. Continuing to work on applications for her Masters project, Bäumel’s work engages with the boundaries between fashion design, art and biology.

Born in 1947, Erik Spiekermann studied history of art and English in Berlin.

After studying at the Technical University of Delft for two years, Frank Tjepkema graduated in 1996 from the Design Academy Eindhoven. Following this he obtained an MA degree in 1998 from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam.

Robert Nakata has produced award-winning work for both Nike and Microsoft but to prove that design need not only give impetus to big brands, he has designed a beautiful series of 80cent stamps for the Dutch postage service.

Irma Boom is an Amsterdam-based graphic designer specialising in book making.

Shubhankar Ray is world renowned for his work as creative director of Camper, where he has worked on the Walking Society concept and the Visual Language System, including a global ad campaign, magazine, film, web and shop systems.

Industrial designer Satyendra Pakhalé describes himself as a “cultural nomad”. Over the years, he has attracted clients from all over the world such as Alessi, Cappellini, Magis, Moroso and Material ConneXion.

Dutch designer Petra Blaisse works in a multitude of creative areas, including textile, landscape and exhibition design. She founded Inside Outside in Amsterdam in 1991.

Anthon Beeke was born in 1940 in Amsterdam. With no formal training, he learnt graphic design while working as an assistant for Ed Callahan in Germany, Jacques Richez in France and Janvan Toorn in The Netherlands. In 1963, he started up as an independent designer but became a partner in the well-known agency Total Design, Amsterdam, in 1976.

Jon Stam is a Canadian-born designer based in Amsterdam and Antwerp. He recently graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven and was the 2008 recipient of the Rene Smeets Prize for best graduation project. Stam has worked in Canada, the United States, the Netherlands and Belgium.
