Jonathan Shapiro

Born in Cape Town in 1958, political cartoonist and satirist Jonathan Shapiro was detained by security police in 1988, shortly before leaving on a Fulbright Scholarship to study media arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Li Edelkoort

Li Edelkoort is a trend forecaster, educator, curator and publisher based in Paris. She has fostered design’s creative talent as chairwoman of the Design Academy Eindhoven between 1998 and 2008.

Heath Nash

Heath Nash holds a BA in Fine Art (sculpture) from the University of Cape Town. He was the Elle Decoration SA designer and lighting designer of the year in 2005/6, and won the title of British Council South African Creative Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006.

Haldane Martin

Haldane Martin qualified as an industrial designer at the Cape Tech in 1992, also winning the Style Student Award. From these promising beginnings he moved on to work for Richard Sparks Industrial Design consultancy but, just a year later, branched off on his own to develop furniture and homeware designs.

Lindy Roy

South African-born Lindy Roy founded Roy Co in New York in 2000. Undertaking projects of different sizes and scales the design firm has worked in environments as diverse as Alaska, New York, the Okavango Delta and Singapore.

Nathan Reddy

Nathan Reddy studied design in Natal at the ML Sultan School of Design. He began his career as a junior designer at FCB design where he remained for three years before moving to TBWA Hunt Lascaris as the head of design.

Ruudt Peters

Ruudt Peters was born in Naaldwijk, The Netherlands. He defines himself as a philosopher and an alchemist, his pieces of jewellery being extensions of a person. He studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Acdemie in Amsterdam, after which he worked as a teacher at the High School of the Arts Constantijn Huygens.

Keith Helfet

Born in Calvinia, South African Keith Helfet studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town before doing a Masters in Automotive Design at the Royal College of Arts in London.
