Stand-alone lamp by 20 Eight

Design studio 20 Eight has ventured from working in cement to a lamp made of steel.

20 Eight is a Pretoria-based design studio, founded by architects Handre de la Rey and Inge de Beer. The studio aims to articulate its ideas through the objects it creates. The work is influenced by the founders’ architectural backgrounds, giving it a distinctive structure and solidity.

Many of the 20 Eight designs have been built from concrete cement, a material that has been used frequently in modern architecture but not so often in decor. This stand-alone lamp is 20 Eight’s first venture into experimenting with the properties of steel. The lamp is finished in matt black with a selection of available coloured electrical wires.

The lamp is one of Design Indaba Expo 2015’s Product Spotlights.
